March 30, 2024  — Supermarket’s First Exhibition

Migracíon de Jarana

Joan Jimenez

On March 30, 2024, we hosted Joan Jimenez’s first solo exhibition in the States: “Migracíon de Jarana.”

The exhibition served as a welcoming introduction between Miami and Joan (originally from Lima, Peru) and an opportunity for people to first connect with his fine art practice instead of his street art, which he’s known for worldwide under Entes.

The show embodied his decades-long art practice, within and outside of his studio. Though characteristic, bombastic portraits of Afro-Peruanos in moments of peace, contemplation, and celebration, we were reminded that the complicated parts of our identities yield beauty and joy whether we’re home, or far from it.

September 14, 2024  — Supermarket’s Second Exhibition

Abuela’s House

Desi Swoope

Our second show was the very first for Desi Swoope. Abuela’s House, opened on September 14, 2024, as the artist’s debut solo exhibition. Desi, 26, originally from Port Saint Lucie, now living and working in Miami, is a multidisciplinary artist who, with this exhibition, began a transition from more of a commercial art focus doing large-scale murals for big-name clients to a deep pursuit of developing and showcasing her intention-filled personal work.
The pieces featured in “Abuela’s House” serve as a love letter to her personal and creative roots, an ode to her great-grandmother who inspired Desi’s artistry. Her playful mix of paint and eclectic found fabrics helped give new life, context, and perspective to old family albums, textures, and dialogue of stories that deserve to be.
